The hustle to the finish line. I know I have missed some steps, sorry for that, but life has been super busy over the last few months. We welcomed a new addition to the family in March and things haven't been the same since (as I am sure you can imagine). That said, we did continue to work on the project we like to cal "The Burner Downer." But just to set the record straight, this thing is anything BUT a burner downer at this point. Now, it is a beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bath bungalow fit for any discerning home-owner. Everything in this place is new. So excited to start showing it off and we're planning to have an open house soon. In the mean time, here are some final "After" pics to give you a glimpse of what it has become. Thanks for following along on this journey. Gotta say thanks to my wife, Mary Helen for supporting this endeavor and pitching in where she could. Dwayne Lamb for all of your help, advice and encouragement. Dustin Capps for putting time in the trenches, couldn't have done it without your help. And to McGaha Electric, Cory Smothers Plumbing and Mike Cable of Cable Handyman Services - you guys all killed it. I am sure I am missing a person or two but I'll make it up when I can. Thanks again for following along. Now, time to sell this place.
I make no bones about it. The kitchen is small-ish, so I am keeping it simple. A few cabinets, a pantry shelf and the appropriate appliances, clean and white, bright and simple.
This vinyl plank flooring will have the tenants and their guests floored over how real this stuff looks. Really amazing stuff!
I found this roll of 15 foot flooring and since I didn't want any seams, even in the doorways to the bathroom and kitchen, it was a good find. It isn't a "statement" flooring product, but it looks okay and should be durable.
I went back and forth about whether to just stay all white or not and decided a little tint wouldn't hurt anyone and might make it feel richer. So, I went with a light grey or "dove grey" if you will. I think it looks good. Still need to paint the trim, but getting closer. At least the electricians can get in and do their thing. Also, I'm gonna go ahead and get the kitchen and bathroom floors done so I can finish the plumbing too.
So I took a little breather. I have a new baby, which stole my heart and a lot of my time. And then the weather got pretty nasty. My handymen had done most of what they could or at least gave me the push I needed to get to the next stage, finishing. Man, I have learned so much, including the fact that all reputable handymen listen to classic rock. "Free Bird!" Now I must paint so that I can install the flooring.
